hello :D

I just installed vbox on my ubuntu hdd... my comp is:

amd quad core 9550 2.2ghz
3gb ram
640gb hdd running vista sp1 dual boot with 80gb hdd running Ubuntu 8.04 x86
nvidia 9600GT.

i cannot seem to get shared folders to work and i read the manual and rebooted the vm but i don't have option to map, and cmd did not work.
please see picture. any input would be great thanks.

I have this working on the vista hdd so i don't see why it's not working on ubuntu.(besides the fact that nothing works on ubuntu and always needs tweaking)

Did you install the Guest Additions? The manual states that you have to install that in order for it to work.

If you install the OSE version of Virtualbox, it doesn't have sharefolders.

Those are installed, as you can see on the first picture. If he didn't have them installed, there would be no entry of the VBox Shared Folders in My Network Places. And he's using the PUEL version, by the looks of it.

GCampton, what if you install the GA again? Does that help? Else you can try installing a previous version of the GA you can download from http://www.virtualbox.org/download. Version 1.6.6 should be released within a few days and it should have a lot of SF fixes.

yea that took forever, i downloaded 1.6.2, uninstalled vbox additions, then restarted, mounted 1.6.2, installed and restarted... still no additions and 50 "found new hardware boxes appearing, so i let windows 'found new harware manager' install vbox additions a 2nd time, still no additions after reboot, so i ran installation a 3rd time, rebooted, and hey presto...

thanks sasquach.

ill try 1.6.6 when it comes out and if it doesn't work ill revert back to previous screenshot of 1.6.2.
