no A/V sinchro win98/XP

Post by kubriq »

HI everybody, I have successfully virtualized Windows 98 on a MacBook Air 2017 (mounting I5@1.9 GHz, 8 GB ram). On some applications I have experienced an out-of-sinchro audio (specifically audio delayed against video). I tried to virtualized winXP too, and I experienced the same problem, even if at a minor extent.
What can this depend on?

Do you have examples of the audio/video that we could test as well?

Also, we need to see a complete VBox.log, from a complete VM run:
  • Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe error / Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
  • With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  • Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Actually it is not a specific file, but rather a package (a language course) with contains several video files.
You can download image here.
I also attach a log of a state in which the problem has occurred.

fabri

A German learning course for Italians, analyzed by a Greek that speaks English and French! Great... just great! :D

That's a really weird selection for a Win98 guest! Why did you enable that? Followed some instructions somewhere? If your VM works as is, do not disable it, just read the tooltip...

Here's what I found:
  1. I had better luck testing the software with a Win98 VM compared to WinXP.
  2. The shortcut that this app created is not working, mainly because they didn't put the location of the shortcut in quotes (""), so I had to start it manually...
  3. I'm running the 5.2.x latest test build (r125704), and that may affect the situation, because of the constant improvements, but the program was running just fine. At least the opening 5', didn't spend time exploring the whole thing...

PS. While comparing your logs with mine, I discovered the following "gem" in my Win98 VM, which I hadn't noticed before. If anyone has any ideas, they're welcomed. Send me a PM, I don't want to pollute this thread...

I have disabled it, maybe I found the selection following instruction somewhere, can't remember...

I also tried to install latest build, but nothing have changed (even in first 5', the problem shows itself at soon). Very weird. However, it's still usable, not a great problem, maybe next builds will fix it for my machine.

Thanks for your help, however, ciao!
