Windows guest on OSX host can't see USB

Post by Frankiels3 »

Ok just to get it out of the way, yes its giving me the "FATAL: No bootable medium found"
The thing is, I don't computer. At all.
I use my mac for writing. Thats it(ok spotify too).
but...

I searched.
I read.
I have no idea what I read.
I don't know what it is talking about.
I have lost my ability to understand english, apparently.
I do have Virtualbox installed.
I selected Windows 10(64 bit).
I opened the VM... and thats as far I can get.
It gives me the Boot error, and from what I understand, its saying i haven't selected a guest OS?
I think.
Please don't knock me for being tech-tarded.

The entire point of this is that I am trying to upload a new tune to my car, and the tune installer program is only for windows operating systems and i have a MacBook... so the truth is I didn't know about VB until about 1.5 hours ago.
So, any nudges in the proper direction would be appreciated greatly, plus infinity.

Did you provide a bootable medium, like a Windows 10 ISO? VirtualBox provides the virtual hardware, not the operating system that you're going to install on it.

You sound like a fairly new user to VirtualBox. Since you are expected to know some basic terms before we engage in a meaningful discussion, I would suggest to start by reading three small chapters from the User Manual: Or even better, read the whole chapter 1. First steps.

And when you want to provide a Windows 10 bootable ISO, look at none other than Microsoft: Download Windows 10 Disc Image (ISO File). You'll need to buy a license and activate it of course.

Ok thank you mucho.
Im going to read what you suggested and see if i can comprehend it, no promises.

So i will have to buy a license for windows?
I honestly had no idea about that either.
Learn as I go.

Honestly i could just go to a friend that has windows and download the tune there, but I'm stubborn as hell and want to figure this out.

It's relatively easy and straight forward.

Yes. You have I think 180 days to activate it.
