Windows Guest: Resolution falls back to 600x480 when changing user the second time

Post by ceugster »

Hi, I don't know, if it is a problem of virtual box or of Windows: When I start Windows Guest System (Windows 7) on my MacOS X Host everything is ok. I login as normal user. Then I change user (to Administrator), work a little and then go back to the first user. Every thing is ok. Now, when I change the second time to the second user, the screen resolution of the guest changes to 600x480 and the maximum colors to the minimum possible. After that, I have to restart the guest to get back the original settings. Does anybody have a similar behavior? Virtualbox 5.2.18.

Doing what? I suspect that one of the programs you're using as User2 might be causing this. Have you installed the GAs? We're going to need to see a VM log from a complete VM run:
  • Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe error / Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
  • With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  • Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

How exactly are you sharing the folders from two different users? You're not supposed to have access to '/Users/brigitte/Downloads'. How do you explain that?

Your Guest Additions are outdated. You need to update them.

Finally, you didn't answer my original question; what exactly do you do when you log in as Administrator?
