Creating a DMZ at home

Hi,
I would like to create a virtual dmz at home to host my Sparkleshare virtual server so that the home physical network would be secure from outside intrusions.
What I know is that the virtual server should be accessible from the physical local network (via ssh).
I am confused as to what kind of network should be used to do that.
Should I create a virtual router and a server inside the virtual network?
