WORKAROUNDED: DVD attached, but not used

I hooked up /dev/sr0 with SATA port 1 on the VM, but it won't boot from it.
It is first boot priority, too. Is it necessary to DD it into an iso file and use that?
<edit>
The trick is I have to watch the console like a hawk and press that key within that *TWO SECOND* window of opportunity.
Too bad the BIOS emulation won't let me type something to make it go ahead and boot off of the DVD.

It has nothing to do with the BIOS. That symptom is a feature of the guest OS.

?? That would be odd because I was describing what was going on with a freshly allocated virtual disk with no OS on it. The future OS was on the DVD, which it would not boot from. I dd-ed the DVD to a file and attached the file and it worked fine. Anyway, my Windows 10 is up and running. The next issue I'm trying to figure out now. (viz. how to increase the monitor from 640x480 to something more normal. Not ready to post just yet....)

If VirtualBox is configured to boot from the CD then it will boot from the CD. That's how we all install an OS so we can hardly be mistaken on this point.
The only time it fails to boot from a CD are (a) other disks are bootable and you configured the CD down the boot order, or (b) the CD is not bootable.
What you appeared to be describing in your previous post was (c) the guest OS is partially installed to the hard disk, the boot code on the CD has code to detect this condition which makes it jump to the boot program on the hard disk. This is typically done when the OS installer has copied install files to the hdd and wants to continue the install from there. Like I said, this makes it a feature of the guest OS, specifically the boot code on the install CD for that guest OS. Typically the OS installer app gives you a couple of seconds to press a key to override before it switches to the continued hd boot.
