For the VM a new session can not be opened

Hello,

since I made a current snapshot today the VM hung and after turning of I saw that media was not attached to the controller any more.

Now I attached media again, startet VM and getting this error message:

Für die virtuelle Maschine Windows 2012 R2 konnte keine neue Sitzung eröffnet werden.

ahci#0: The target VM is missing a device on port 0. Please make sure the source and target VMs have compatible storage configurations [ver=8 pass=final] (VERR_SSM_LOAD_CONFIG_MISMATCH).

Fehlercode:NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Komponente:ConsoleWrap
Interface:IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}

How to make shure that I get media connected to the snapshot again? After adding media and selecting the snapshot vitualbox is restoring and can no see the media after that. When selecting a snapshot then virtualbox is restoring, showing this error message and in vm saved state no media attached to controller is seen. Can not manualy add the media via GUI without choosing dismiss vm. Then everything begins from scratch and I am prisoner in this loop.

Need help as soon as possible please.

Dirk

What does that mean? What "media" are you referring to? Your DVD? Your HD? Your floppy? Your attached USB?

Most probably you need to discard the saved state. I honestly can't figure out what you've done, and I can't answer with the information given. For that reason, I need to see the .vbox of the VM; right-click on the VM in VirtualBox Manager, Show in <whatever>, ZIP it and attach it.

Do not try to do things you don't understand how they work. If you want to experiment, do it, by all means! But not with something you need. Build a test VM, try to see how things work, understand the software and its features, and then work on your main VM. Don't mess with your main VM, screw it over (often irreversibly) and then complain that it's broken...

I am refering to the HD.
I need to see the .vbox of the VM; right-click on the VM in VirtualBox Manager, Show in <whatever>, ZIP it and attach it.
Right-clicked at the VM in VirtualBox Manager, shown in settings (pictures 2 and 3) and attached as compressed file to this post.

I made one of my weekly snapshots and after that the OS in the VM hung, so that I turned this VM off. After that this happened. That´s why I asking here in advance to get the VM up again.

All I did was to discard saved state and make a clone with all the snapshots in between. Same error message within the clone. Hope to get here the exact info how to bring the VM with latest snapshot up again.

How to find out what device is missing virtualbox is complaining? Remembering not exactly if only the vdmk was attached as hdd to the virtual controller or maybe also cdrom. All I need is getting my vdmk with my latest snapshot up and running.

Since I have cloned this I find no snapshots as .vdmk files any more, only some files as .sav

Maybe got to remove some stateFile="{xxxxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxx}.sav" in the .vdmk, see viewtopic.php?t=38140 ?!?

Need help!

What now exactly to do? Doing nothing any more until I get reply from with further questions or further instructions.

summary: got now two virtualbox vms (one clone) with one .vmdk in the directory of the origin vm and two .sav in the subdirectory snapshots.

Are you kidding me? What do you think this is? Your personal support site? The only reason I'm going to reply is because I don't want to ban you for a week so that you can chill out!!! From PMs, to continued posts, to posts in 7-year old threads? PLEASE STOP.

This is a user to user site. We're volunteers. We're helping you out. We do NOT need the constant posts abuse! If you want a 24/7 support, we can arrange some form of payment on a yearly basis. I promise it's going to cost you less than the 6100 $ that you're going to have to pay Oracle if you want support. Oh, and they're Mon-Fri only!!! With summer vacation time!!!

But, I asked you for something; the .vbox file. You didn't do it. We can't continue if you don't provide the ZIPPED recipe (.vbox) that I asked for:

Listen... this is getting tiring. I deleted your three more unrelated picture attachments. This is NOT what I asked for. If you have a problem understanding, try https://www.deepl.com/translator or https://translate.google.com/, but I don't think you have a problem understanding English at all.

So, I'm going to point you to my previous post. Follow the instructions. Post the ZIPPED .vbox file for the VM that has the problem.

Any other unrelated message will be deleted. If you keep on posting unrelated posts, I'll ban you for a day or two to lower the noise in the forums. Other users need help as well, I cannot be dealing with your irrelevant posts all the time...

That's got to be one of the weirdest states that I've seen on a VM. All the hard drives are missing from all 4 snapshots!

I have a feeling that you messed with the .vbox manually, and by trying to fix it, you've destroyed it. Almost irreversibly. This is going to take quite some magic to make it happen, *if* it can happen at all!

If you have kept the default settings, then your VM should be located in "/home/dirk/VirtualBox VMs/Windows 2012 R2". I need the output of:
  •
    ls -alR "/home/dirk/VirtualBox VMs/Windows 2012 R2"
If you have not kept your VM in the default location, adjust the path accordingly. Also, if you have a previous backup of the .vbox file, before you started messing with it (you made a backup, right?), I'm going to need that as well. ZIPPED...

Thank you for your reply: I have "messed" (edited) with this .vbox nothing. All I changed was the default path after installation of virtualbox because my home directory has inssuficient free disk space and thats why I need this files in other directory. Going to send the further you requested.

These two .vbox files are identical. If that's the only backup you're having...? Things just started looking a little bit more gloomy... :?
