Cannot enable auto-resize display

I'm running VirtualBox on an Ubuntu 18.04 host, with a Windows 10 guest.
I'm trying to enable 'Auto Resize Guest Display'.

In the View menu 'Auto Resize Guest Display' is grayed out.

My understanding is that this option should be available if I have enabled Guest Additions
I have guest additions enabled, but this doesn't make the resize option available.

One forum post suggested that uninstalling and re-installing guest additions could help.
But I haven't been able to figure out how to uninstall guest additions.
(I can't find anything to uninstall within Windows that seems related to VirtualBox.)

What should I do next?

We're going to need to see a VM log from a complete VM run:
  • Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe error / Shutdown the VM (force close it if you have to).
  • With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
  • Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response. See the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form.

No error can be generated.

The function that I want to trigger is simply unavailable.

How about "erroneous behavior"? Please post a log from a complete VM run.
