Black screen after logon with fedora and red hat linux vms

Post by gcs1968 »

Hi,
I have been using VBox for a while when suddenly first my fedora VM went to black screen after logon screen then a few days later same happened to my red hat vm
I don't have 3d set.
I have another vm that is working fine but all my work is on the other 2.
I have tried creating a new session and mounting previuos vdi but still doesn't work.
I have downloaded latest version of virtualbox and extensions.
After a while the screen saver will appear i can re enter my password but drops to black screen.
I have tried ctrl + F1 but doesn't work.
I have been stuck on this for over a day trying different suggestions but still not displaying properly.

Thanks

You should enable it.
00:00:06.168679 Host RAM: 16299MB (15.9GB) total, 6554MB (6.4GB) available
00:00:06.899824 RamSize <integer> = 0x0000000040000000 (1 073 741 824, 1 024 MB)
You could allocate 2 GB of RAM to your guest, it's going to be much happier.
00:00:06.900691 [/Devices/usb-ohci/] (level 2)
You should enable USB3 (xHCI) in the VM settings. And you could switch the mouse from PS/2 to USB Tablet.
00:00:06.900782 VRamSize <integer> = 0x0000000001000000 (16 777 216, 16 MB)
And this is where I think the problem lies. The minimum of 16 MB is not enough. Max the VRAM allocated to the guest to 128 MB.

Had the same issue (or a similar one) and the solution was to change the resolution. With the VM running, right click on the screen icon at the bottom right (in VirtualBox) and voilà.

Hope this helps.
