Installing Guest Additions on Windows 10 VM from MacOS?

Post by sdcinvan »

Hello all,

I have read about a dozen similar threads but none of them seem to have a resolution or they don't actually match my issue.

I just installed a Windows 10 VM and I want to enable copy/paste between the host MacOS and Windows VM but I need to install the Guest Additions. If I go to Settings > User Interface > Devices > ... Insert Guest Additions CD image... it is already selected. Even unselecting it, closing Windows, re-start Windows, and then re-selecting Insert Guest Additions CD image doesn't do anything on the Windows VM guest.

From the Windows side, I have gone into disk management, File Explorer and see no hint of a Guest Additions CD.

Can I ask for a hint?

Thank you. :)

You don't go to the VM Settings. What you did enables/disables the menu entries. You should restore them back to their defaults.

While the VM is running and the VM window has the focus, you go to the menu (to the right of the Apple logo) "Devices" » "Insert GAs CD image". Your Win should prompt you for your next action. If it doesn't, go to the CD in the VM, and run "VBoxWindowsAdditions.exe".
