I have read several posts and nothing I have tried works.
VirtualBox was working fine and then it wasn't... after I had run sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade
I didn't update VirtualBox. I hate updating every time someone sneezes.

I found the file 50-vboxdrv.rules and changed its name... as someone had suggested. That did not work either.
Have I missed some simple fix? Or do I now **HAVE** to upgrade to a newer version of virtualbox?
Running Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya

Re: 5.1.32 USB not visible
You should. This is not a Minesweeper game. This is a program that installs kernel drivers at the lowest possible level. So, if something like the USB driver is not loading (did you check 'dmesg' for any 'vbox' related errors?), you should re-install VirtualBox. Plus, 5.1.32 is definitely old for your current kernel.Bladeforger wrote:I didn't update VirtualBox. I hate updating every time someone sneezes.
If you want to use the latest version for your host/guests, you should also be doing the same for VirtualBox. Download the latest VirtualBox. As of this writing, that would be version 5.2.10. If that doesn't work you should try the latest test builds, especially with all the Spectre/Meltdown patches coming in from all sides.
