I assume that there's a technical reason why that isn't done, e.g. that what you did was a problem for the guest you installed, but not an error in itself.

Oh, but there is!!! Just turn off the I/O APIC on any VM that needs it, just the one with the 3 CPUs that you have. Do you see the triangle warning in the same height as the "OK", "Cancel" buttons? Now, hover over that triangle warning sign. What can you read?
The thing is that it's supposed to be enabled automatically, that's what threw me (at least) off. So I don't really know what happened here. Did you edit the .vbox file manually?
