Are you sure you have enough snapshots? For the love of bytes, what are you doing with so many snapshots, are you trying to sabotage your VM on purpose??? Take a look at a draft post about how snapshots work (Snapshot basics), and you're going to realize that you're one step away from disaster!

Other than that, and to return to your problem, the GAs are installed, the Clipboard is set to Bi-directional. So everything looks correctly setup. Are you sure that you can't copy/paste simple text from Notepad to Notepad?

Yes. It suddenly stops, from time to time...

When you see this happening, could you kill the VBoxTray.exe process (VirtualBox Guest Additions Tray Application) from the Task Manager, and relaunch it from "C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox Guest Additions\VBoxTray.exe"?

OK, will try it. Usually, i shot down the VM and restart the host system OS...

I have exactly same problem
Host - win10
guest - ubuntu 16.04

restarting both host and guest didn't help
GA reinstalling didn't help
updating vmbox to latest version didn't help

it was working fine last few months.
i suspect win10 update broken something

Still the same problem on v5.2.18

If you are not interested to solve that issue, e.g. because i use a too old system (winows server 2003 32bit), please tell me. but so i know, it also exists on newer operating systems, and not just windows.

That process does not exist on my Windows Server 32Bit client... i only see a process "VBoxService.exe"...

Oh - after a restart i see it again in the task manager...

Maybe that is the solution? :-)

When the copy/paste problem happens the next time, and there is not "VBoxTray.exe" process will execute "VBoxTray.exe" again. Then i will seee what's going on...

Problem is occured again and the process "VBoxTray.exe" still exists... so there is not relation in every case between "VBoxTray.exe" process and the copy / paste problem...

But now, i can copy from vm to host, but not vice versa...

I had a case where i was able to copy/paste "normal" texts (e.g. from notepad), but no links from outlook...

Are there any VirtualBox developers actually reading this forum? Or is this just a user-to-user forum?

Anyway, to clarify: my problem with VBox is not copying text from the Guest to the Host (or even copying an image in the Clipboard) or the Host to the Guest, that works perfectly.

What REALLY gets on my nerves is that all I need to do to to get the Guest to freeze with VBoxtray.exe + Explorer.exe + Dwm.exe hogging 100% of the CPU core assigned to the Guest is to drag a *file* from the Host OVER the guest window.

Because I run the Guest Windows 10 OS as a window on my desktop, this happens by accident VERY frequently: for instance, when I am dragging a file in the Host to a shared folder in the Host so I can copy it from there to the Guest (because I can't drop it directly into the Guest window) and I accidentally make it go over the Guest window, or when I am doing an unrelated drag & drop operation in the Host and I accidentally make the mouse pointer go over the Guest window.

When that happens, the only solution is to Reset the Guest using Machine -> Reset. It's a PITA and it has been like this for at least a year, probably longer. File drag & drop is BROKEN is VirtualBox and has been so for a VERY LONG TIME.
