Device 'usb-ehci'/0 not found in the saved state

Post by madmoses »

Hi,

I run a linux mint machine (based on ubuntu 16.04) and have installed virtualbox 5.1.32 with the extension pack. I try to run a snapshot with windows xp and got the following error.

Code: Select all

pdm#1: Device 'usb-ehci'/0 not found in the saved state [ver=5 pass=final] (VERR_SSM_LOAD_CONFIG_MISMATCH).
What is wrong?

Saved state will not always work post update. Discard the saved state and it should start.

I'm not sure the OP updated VirtualBox. The error is simply saying that when they took the snapshot, there was a USB device attached. Now it's not there. You can't restore a saved state with missing hardware.

@madmoses, you have two options: 1) make the USB device available again before restoring, or 2) discard the saved state, as Perryg mentioned.

Generally speaking, avoid saved states. I haven't seen anything good coming out of them, except some shaved seconds/minutes. And of course, like in any rule there are exceptions.
