Desktop GUI has disappeared

I have an Ubuntu 17.10 Desktop guest on a Windows 10 host, using virtualbox 5.2.6.

I hadn't used it for a few weeks. When I did, again, the VM starts up without any apparent problem. But, the VM's window in Windows 10 is black. I cannot login. Also, I can ping the VM but not ssh to it.

Any ideas?

The first would be to change your search engine/queries. There are a gazillion results since 5.2.6 came out... ;)

The second (and the non-joking one), would be to go to the Downloads page and look at the "Important" paragraph, then download the updated GAs (VBoxGuestAdditions_5.2.7-120326.iso).

If you can't login to your VM, disable the 3D acceleration first, boot your VM and attach the GAs ISO from the previous step, then install the updated GAs. If you shut down the VM, you could re-enable the 3D acceleration again.

Moving to "Linux Guests" from "Windows Hosts", since the problem is with your guest, not your host.
