Unable to read laser disc while running VM

Post by DeepFalcon »

Here it is necessary to explain: I kind of wanted to install a second VM, with powered VM Windows, but did not consider that the laser drive in the host system behaves differently if at least one client system is running. It seems like everything is simple - in the terminal you take an image of the laser disk with the required system, and then the installation under ORACLE. But in the process of creating of an image , at the command line, a disk read error occurs several times in a row, say 75% (about a gigabyte of read data), chats are working, ONLINE is on, - and I, thinking that the disc is defective, cut it with scissors and I throw it into a box with papers and all sorts of small rubbish. But the second disk (the first one - Voyager 32-bit, the second one - Voyager 64-bit) gives the same error on the command line when creating an image, about a gigabyte. Here I decide to shut down all the programs, and on repetition the test disk is successfully read to the very end, up to 100%.

VirtualBox doesn't read from host drives. Your host OS does that, and I can't think of any VirtualBox behaviour that can even interfere.

p.s. I assume that "laser disc" refers to a DVD-data or CD-data drive, possibly external. Is it connected to USB?
