Unable to insert guest additions - VERR_PDM_DRIVER_NOT_FOUND

Hello,

I did an upgrade of the VirtualBox version from 5.2.4 (5.2.4-119785~Debian~stretch) to 5.2.6 (5.2.6-120293~Debian~stretch).
Then I downloaded the new extension pack version and did the same (with "VBoxManage extpack install --replace Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extension_Pack-5.2.6-120293.vbox-extpack" option).

Everything works and the guest OS (Windows 7) starts normally.

But when I try to insert the guest additions CD image I get this error message:
Unable to insert the virtual optical disk /usr/share/virtualbox/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso into the machine Windows-7-Ultimate-64bit.
Could not mount the media/drive '/usr/share/virtualbox/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso' (VERR_PDM_DRIVER_NOT_FOUND).
Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005)
Component: ConsoleWrap
Interface: IConsole {872da645-4a9b-1727-bee2-5585105b9eed}
Callee: IMachine {85cd948e-a71f-4289-281e-0ca7ad48cd89}

Has anyone a clue what this means or how to fix this issue?

Thanks.

I would do a purge of anything "vbox*", "virtualbox*", reboot, and try a clean install instead of an in-place update.

I just did that. The same error comes up.

Same deal for me - Fedora 27 host, Windows 10 guest. VirtualBox 5.2.6. Everything else appears to be working fine.

I downloaded the .ISO manually and was able to update the Guest Additions that way.

Hello Quppa,

I followed your advice and "mounted" the ISO within the guest OS manually and then ran the installation.
So far everything seems to work.

Thanks.
