[Solved] Shared folders issue Win7 guest on Mac host

Hello there,

After a rather consisting problem that turned out into a quest for some holy grale, I think I found the solution to the problem.
Socratis already told me a frew things in a similar looking post (viewtopic.php?f=8&t=85748), but that was just like Socratis said: not the solution.
Sorry about that, my friend Socratis.

Configuration:
Guest virtual machine Win7 installed on host Mac (OS 10.12)

Problem:
After adding Shared network folders in machine Settings (to read with guest machine on NAS - through host network) it did work for a short while.
But then after another short while, or after reboot or whatever I could think of, shared netwerkfolders stopped working.
Changed many settings: netwerk type, emptied virtual CD drive, and many other setting changes.
Just didn't work, it drove me mad.

Solution:
Removed shared folders in VB settings.
Created a network connection in the guest machine Win7.
(So I am no longer using shared folders in VB settings at all.)
Works perfect now.

Wait a minute... you never said anything about the share *not* being local. As the manual says, you can only share local folders, not networked folders. I still don't think that it ever worked, even temporarily.

But thanks for the feedback, you are correct, a true network folder would work. And thank you for marking it as [Solved]... ;)

To be honoust, I didn't find it in the manual.
And I really looked for it, that's for sure.
From users point of view: be honoust now, what do the words Shared Folders make you think of?
Only local folders or just (all) folders?
Some descriptions in VB could use improvement, if you ask me.
Thanks for your help!
:D

Ch. 4.3 Shared folders, the 2nd paragraph:
Shared folders must physically reside on the host and are then shared with the guest

I don't know, I've never used network folders as VirtualBox shared folders, or maybe I've read it in the Manual and I already knew about it. But let me reverse the question: how would you feel about it (if you were troubleshooting the issue) and you were *not* given all the problem's details? That was a significant parameter that was missing from your problem description. We could have solved/resolved it much earlier...

Feel free to suggest them then, or even better improve on the documentation and submit a patch/correction. They get accepted all the time...

You're welcome, no problemo! ;)
