Updates from 5.0 to 5.2 problems.

I have searched to posts but can't find a solution to this problem.
Am using Virtual box on a Linux Mint 17 host which has been some time out of use. Current copy is 5.03, I wish to update to 5.2 but get an error when downloading/installing the file.
Here is a copy of the error.... 'Error. Breaks existing package 'virtualbox-5.0' that conflict: 'virtualbox'. But the '/tmp/mozilla_ dave0....provides it via 'virtualbox'.
I have tried older versions 5.1 and up thinking it might need a series of up dates to get to current version, but with the same result.
Would someone be kind enough to point me in the right direction, please?
Would it make sense to re-install 5.2?

When major updates are released it is not uncommon to need to remove the previous version before installing the new one. This is especially necessary if you have the distros version ( fork ) installed which is the most common reason for needing to remove the installed version first.

Thank you for the speedy reply. One further question, if I may. If i uninstall/install 5.2 will I lose my guest programs and other installed stuff?

No. The guests are considered data much like a document just really big. That said if you have anything that you deem important you should always back it up in case things go bad.

Thanks will give it a go. Just thought, I should look up the changes, just to see if it's worth the trouble. Using out dated programs isn't such a problem!!!

It depends what you want to run as guest OS inside the VM. E,g, old VirtualBox versions may not do as well on newer Win10 releases.
