I've installed the Guest Additions for Linux on Debian 9.3, but it still does not allow me to go beyond 1024x768 screen resolution. I've already done this for Win 7 and all works fine.
Does anyone around here know anything about the subject? I should like to have a VM for Linux and Windows in each of two workspaces under the Hipster WM. I've got the Widows part done, but Debian 9.3 is being difficult.
Screen size for Debian 9.3 on Hipster 2017.10?

Moving to "Linux Guests" from "Solaris Hosts", since the problem is with your guest, not your host.
We're going to need to see a VM log from a complete VM run:
We're going to need to see a VM log from a complete VM run:
- Start the VM from cold-boot (not from a paused or saved state) / Observe error / Shutdown the VM.
- With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log".
- Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response (see the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form).
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

Re: Screen size for Debian 9.3 on Hipster 2017.10?
Reinstalled Debian 9.3 from an ISO image in a new VM. Attempting to install from DVD failed repeatedly. Installed gcc, make, perl and the linux headers at which point the Linux installation .run file ran to "successful" completion. However, if I go to the Debian display resolution dialog, I am not allowed to pick anything larger than 1024x768. A similar operation on Windows 7 works fine. Log file attached.
NB: the 9.2 in the subject line is a typo. [Mod edit; fixed title typo]
