Linux GuestAdditions 5.2.2 using Windows 7 host and Run as an Administrator

Hi,

I have VirtualBox 5.2.2 in my Windows 7, and Linux guest.
When I build the GuestAdditions, and try to use VBoxManage from host, example:
VBoxManage guestproperty enumerate mylinux

Fail if the VM is running with:
VBoxManage.exe: error: Code E_FAIL (0x80004005) - Unspecified error (extended info not available)
VBoxManage.exe: error: Context: "LockMachine(a->session, LockType_Shared)" at line 253 of file VBoxManageGuestProp.cpp
Or if not running the VM, only show basic properties (not the advanced as Net properties, etc).

Doing tests I've seen that if go to the "Oracle VM VirtualBox" icon, properties->advanced options->Run as an Administrator, and check this option, and restart VirtualBox, everything works well.

When VirtualBox is installed this option appears without activating "Run as an Administrator".
Is it always necessary to activate this option?

Regards,

First of all, I believe that you don't mean "installed", you mean "run".

You do not need to run VirtualBox as an administrator. Never. Furthermore, you should not have to run VirtualBox at all to use VBoxManage, they're independent. So, I'm not sure what you've done there, but something doesn't compute. Where are your VMs stored, in their default location? Have you installed the Guest Additions?

With the VM completely shut down (not paused or saved), right-click on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log". Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response (see the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form).
