[SOLVED] Changelog for version 5.2.4-119785~Ubuntu~xenial?

Post by randomguy »

I updated my system and I noticed VirtualBox has been updated from 5.2.2 to 5.2.4. I don't see this version in downloads or Changelog.

Does anyone know if the Web site is occasionally updated slower than the actual software?

Where can we find more details about this update?

Code: Select all

 Version table:
 *** 5.2.4-119785~Ubuntu~xenial 500
        500 http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian xenial/contrib amd64 Packages

virtualbox.org has just been updated and the changlog is up at https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Changelog

PROBLEM: On two Ubuntu 17.10 guests, I lose keyboard input (mouse is okay) immediately upon either:
- confirming the notification to upgrade Guest Addition from 5.2.2 to 5.2.4, or alternately
- launching a GA upgrade via the Devices tab (my recollection is hazy on this one)

However, a Windows 10 guest upgrades Guest Additions (via the Devices tab) without issue and seems fine.

I'll try a command line GA upgrade on the Ubuntu 17.10 guest now...

[UPDATE] Yup, issuing a sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions.run from the CDROM seems okay. No keyboard issues and I can even launch another Devices->Install Guest Addtions without losing the keyboard.

Why would it matter how the GA upgrade was launched? Baffling...

Oh, I see Changelog is updated now.
But I got my binaries updated before Changelog or download links were changed.

To your point, I had similar problems with 17.10, which is why I abandoned Artful last week.
Those non-LTS versions aren't a good fit for me, way too many bugs in way too many packages...

Would you prefer it if it was the other way around? An announcement with links that were pointing nowhere? Somebody *would* have complained about that as well...

There are a finite, discrete number of things that need to happen during an update. These things don't happen in the same millisecond, they do take some time in between them. You (or Ubuntu) just happened to check during that "in between" time, when the repositories were updated, but the announcement hadn't been made yet.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
