5.2.0/1 Unable to resize larger than 1024x768

Post by LiamH »

I have a new Windows 10 host on which I installed 5.2.0, and per instructions on the download page, installed the Guest Additions 5.2.1-118447 in Debian 9.2 guest. While this mostly worked, I was completely unable to get the screen to resize larger than 1024x768; auto-resize as well as all the specific dimensions under "View" were disabled. I then downgraded to 5.1.30 (and matching GA), and everything works as I expected, auto-resize to anything and I am able to go fullscreen at 2560x1600. I am posting this per the request to report problems; I am happy to proceed using 5.1.30 for this installation.

Please try the latest version on the Downloads[1] page.

I can confirm the problem with Debian 9.2 and Gnome, still with updated guest additions.

Actually, a mere assertion is not a confirmation. A zipped VM log file would be confirmation.

Same problem here.
I'm stuck with 1024x768 (or 800x600, 640x480) having a 1920x1080 screen.

I've been scanning all possible menus in virtualbox and searching all morning for tips and hints.
I installed the VBoxGuestAdditions_5.2.1-118468 (but after that, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do).

So far, still stuck.

Host is win 10 pro.
Guest is Debian 9.2
VirtualBox 5.2.0 r118431

Any idea would be greatly welcome :)

Please note that the latest Additions build on the downloads page is r118918, not r118468, though that was to fix a problem with Debian 9.2, not 6.3. Log files might help (/var/log/*vbox* from the guest, a host log file for the machine, /var/log/Xorg* from the guest, the journal or syslog output, the output of lsmod | grep box).

Hello,

Sorry, I should have pointed this out before: the logs I asked jcrousseau for previously (quote: /var/log/*vbox* from the guest, a host log file for the machine - got that -, /var/log/Xorg* from the guest, the journal or syslog output, the output of lsmod | grep box) would be good to have. And the version of the Additions you installed.

Regards
Michael
