How do I make VPN connection from within the guest OS, without the host being connected to the VPN?

Hello, everyone.
Could someone please help me get my guest OS (Debian stable/stretch) be able to make a VPN connection (without my host OS, which is also using Debian stable/stretch, being connected to the VPN as well)?
Technically, I haven't been able to get the guest OS connected to the VPN, even when the host OS is connected to the VPN, but I would really like it for the guest OS to be connected to it, without the host OS also being connected to it; I want the host OS to just be connected to the Internet, without any VPN stuff involved.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
