mauricev, I want you to try with the filter method. Again, it seems to me that you haven't read the whole USB basics and troubleshooting. All of the posts. There are two ways to capture a device. Try with the filter.

Filters:
USB 1.1, no difference
USB 2, interestingly, after waiting several minutes it doesn't see the dongle at all (Can't check anything else without the dongle present). So it seems filters are more buggy.

I do wish you would stop using the word "bug" since you clearly do not know what the word means, and each time you use it it's an insult to the devs. "Bug" does not mean "not working", as the latter has many possible causes, only one of which is a bug.

IMHO the more likely cause is that you don't know how to use and configure the software correctly. If it was a systemic bug then everyone else would have the same symptoms. They do not.

Some basics:
USB 1.1 is always available, because USB2 devices have a fallback to 1.1, and the latter doesn't require the extension pack.
USB 2.0 requires the extension pack, and most OS's from this millenium support it.
USB 3.0 won't work in Win7 and earlier. This is fixable if you understand how.

The contents of the "VMinfo" attachment above shows that VirtualBox IS seeing USB devices. So now it comes down to why you think a guest OS should see them: pick one concrete example, i.e. one device and one USB standard, let's focus.

There was something puzzling me about this whole setup, I couldn't figure out exactly what you were saying. So, I re-read your post really carefully. You see, I was thrown off by the fact that you said Windows 7. I thought you were creating a VM that was running Windows. No, you were not. That was simply the template that you used. You were in fact booting into HDClone.

So, I looked to see what is HDClone is (erdeslawe you should have warned us ;) ). HDClone is a backup program which also provides a bootable ISO with its own operating system. So, you were not using Windows (as the logs say), you were using a 3rd party OS. And that OS' name is "Miray Simobi". From the Wikipedia page:
The basis of Symobi is the message-oriented operating system µnOS, which is on its part based on the real-time microkernel Sphere.
Well, I'm sorry I've wasted your time having you trying different experiments. The conversation would have ended right then and there. It is not supported. Have you even asked Miray if Symobi is allowed to be virtualized? Can it even work in a virtual machine? Are all its functions supported? I bet the answer would be a big NO, at least for the 3rd question. This is a real-time system, completely different logic from what a virtual environment can offer.

So mauricev that's why you have the problems that you're having. It's not VirtualBox, it's the fact that Symobi cannot work properly when virtualized. I'm sorry that you have a Mac and Symobi only works with Windows, but, c'est la vie.

Now, I will mark this thread as [Invalid] and if you could also close ticket #17130: USB 2 or 3 controller doesn't see USB devices as "Invalid" that would be really kind of you.

I apologize for not making it clearer as to what OS was actually being booted. I didn't even know what OS HDClone was running under.

The reason I tried it was while it does completely function in VMWare Fusion (with the template set to Windows 95), the interface runs in a kind of slow-motion mode and I wanted to see if I could get it to run in full-speed in VirtualBox. I at least expected it to function in VirtualBox. This does suggest something isn't entirely right with VirtualBox if it can run--albeit slowly--in Fusion. HDClone does apparently have a "Linux" startup mode, and I will look into that further.

I asked for the bug ticket to be closed (I don't see an option to do this myself).

Thank you for your help.
