One or more disk image files is not currently accessible

Post by DeeDee »

Good night

I am new to Virtual Box and I am running Windows XP, VM via an external hard drive for my Database Engineering course. My virtual box worked fine up until this morning and from my recollection I made sure and shut down my VM and the virtual box stopped before removing my external hard drive. However when I opened the Virtual box this afternoon it gave me the following error "One or more disk image files is not currently accessible." When I click the check button I saw XP Hard Disk.vhd the UUID 94f938ef-ebc3-e111-8296-83a7c171d001 and under optical disks there was VBOXGuestAdditions.iso UUID db4390f1-fd30-42c9-a9f7-e19eaf052546.

After looking through some post and solutions, I attempted to fix the issue by releasing them both however that did not work. Can someone please assist me as I am not familiar with Virtual Box and I really need to have access in order to complete my course work. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Releasing the guest additions iso was a good idea. Releasing the .vhd was a very bad idea. That is what the vm needs to boot from. Reattach it to the vm from Settings.

Good night Bill

Thank you for your response, I believe I got through with reattaching the hard disk. After I did it, I got to load the VM but it gave me a Fatal error no bootable medium, so I am working on tackling that part now.

Thanks again for your assistance.
