Slow Startup on Solaris 10

Post by ubyt3m3 »

Hi,

I'm running VirtualBox 1.6.4 and VMWare for Linux on my Slackware 12.1 system (P4 with 4GB of RAM). I installed Solaris 10 as VB Guest OS and another Solaris 10 as VMWare Guest OS with the same configuration (8GB of disk space and 512 MB of RAM).

On VB, it takes 10-15 minutes for the GUI to completely come up whereas it takes only a few minutes for the VMWare Guest OS.

Does anyone know why it makes so much differences in boot up time between VB and VMWare? Also, is there any way to make my Solaris 10 on VB to come up faster?

Thanks in advance,
gibb

There might be a problem with the raw mode optimization for Solaris guests which is used for older machines. On newer machines which support VT-x or AMD-V enabling this option should increase the performance with Solaris guests.
