I'm a newbie with Virtualbox.I have successfully created CentOS machine, in 5.1.26 version of Virtualbox.

However when I shutdown my and machine and restart after sometime, virtual box does not find the previous installation. It re-initiates the installation. Need to understand, where I am going wrong?

Linux install CDs are live-CDs, meaning if your guest boots to the CD first you are going to get the pre-install environment you started with. Take the CD out of the guest's virtual drive and reboot the guest.
