USB Devices Not Connecting

Post by Lizzie »

I am attempting to connect 2 External Hard Drives, a Webcam, and a External Sound Card to my Windows 8.1 guest. Settings shows that they are all present but they are inaccessible to the Guest. i listed as much information below as has been asked of others except the log file which is too large to attach. The Guest is also set for 2 monitors (2 physical monitors present) and i only get one monitor. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Even after you zip it?

The VBox.log file is required before any discussion may begin, so make your best efforts.

I don't see anything obvious in the logs, in fact I see the log entries which indicate that at least two devices connect ok to the VM. Is your host user joined to the "vboxusers" group?

Btw, please note that VirtualBox gives you more reliable ways to use three out of the four devices you mention (i.e. all except the sound card). External drives can be accessed as shared folders. VirtualBox v4.3 and later has a mechanism for sharing a host webcam.

Lizzie,
Please read the following thread: USB basics and troubleshooting, all of the posts.

In your case I believe that:
  1. you need to delete some of the fields in the filters, leaving only the VendorID and ProductID. And of course the Name is optional and you can change it at will, it's just an easy to remember field.
  2. Plug the devices after the VM has completely started and you've logged in.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.
