G'day everyone.
I've been a basic VirtualBox user for may years. Today I've been running into an audio issue I seem unable to resolve. Perhaps someone here has some wisdom!
System details :
Asus F555LA laptop
Linux Mint 18.2 Host OS.
Latest VBox 5.1_5.1.26-1177224-Ubuntu-xenial_amd64.deb downloaded and installed along with the extension pack.
Windows 7 x64 Guest OS.
Installs fine, but throws up
"No audio devices could be opened. Selecting the NULL audio backend with the consequence that no sound is audible.
Error ID: HostAudioNotResponding"
This happens regardless of the audio selection (Pulse, OSS or ALSA) with any of the sub options (HD Audio, Soundblaster 16 etc). No combination brings it back.
Within the Windows guest OS sound appears to be generated. The speaker icon is visible (doesn't have a red X), and when playing videos I can watch the audio meter moving in the mixer.
I'm guessing that PulseAudio is somehow locking the sound card, as there are no audio issues on the Host OS.
I would welcome any suggestions!
No audio on Mint 18.2 host / Win 7 guest
Re: No audio on Mint 18.2 host / Win 7 guest
I can add that I am experiencing the same issue with no audio on Gnome Boxes as well.

As far as I know, Gnome Boxes are a completely different virtualization product. So, if 2/2 fail, then you should check something on your host maybe???
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Yes, that was my reason for trying Boxes and mentioning it here. I have to assume that the Linux host is not releasing the sound somehow. I just don't know where to start looking into thatsocratis wrote:As far as I know, Gnome Boxes are a completely different virtualization product.
