From the ticket #16937 which was closed as "Invalid":
frank wrote:You are using a distribution-specific VirtualBox package. The virtualbox-dkms error is not directly related to VirtualBox so please open a bug against your Linux distribution. To me it seems like the compilation of the vboxdrv kernel module was not successful. Did you install the correct kernel headers for your currently running kernel? See also the message in your report

They closed it because the information you provided was not from VirtualBox. It was from a distro fork ( virtualbox-dkms ) and it says that the matching headers are missing. Purge the distro version and install the official version from virtualbox.org and then see if it fails because of the missing "matching" headers.

Please post the new information with the official VirtualBox and a proof that the headers for your kernel actually exist.

If you run the following in your terminal it should reply back that you have the proper headers installed that match your running kernel.

Code: Select all

dpkg -s linux-headers-$(uname -r)
Post the results here. If it returns nothing then you still need to install them.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)

You see what it says, right?

Now you head to kali and ask why they do not have the headers available that matches you running kernel.
