Ubuntu 8.04 (Windows XP guest) on macbook pro

Ok I'm not sure if im am posting this in the correct section. If not sorry in advance.
Here is my setup.
Macbook Pro using rEFit to boot OS X, Ubuntu, Windows XP.
I am trying to get Windows XP to boot in Virtualbox while in Ubuntu. I created a MBR file using install-mbr -p 4 --force <filename> and the vmdk using -rawdisk. I have also booted into XP and added registry information from other tutorials and extracted the .sys files.
When i try to boot XP from Virtualbox i am prompted to choose what i want to boot (added multiple lines in the boot.ini. Just testing). I get the following errors when i try each.
Selected: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Error:
Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.
Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware.
Please check the Windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.
Selected: Windows
Error:
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this fixed? If more information is needed please let me know.
