Now since I know that my processor supports VT-x (my Pc is garbage for VMing) I want to install XP. I have a CD so can I install it from there? I am running Ubuntu.
EDIT:
More information:
RAM: 4GB
Chip: Intel Haswell
OS: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
System: 64 Bit

Yes, you can associate a physical host CD drive with the virtual CD drive belonging to the guest. However it must
be a host CD drive, and not a host USB drive.
Even better would be to image the CD using an imaging tool such as
ImgBurn. The resulting .ISO image can then be mounted in the VM's virtual drive: this will work whether or not the host has a physical CD drive. Plus it will be silent and can't suffer from bad CD sectors.

Two questions:
1: Do I have to put in the Windows XP installation disk every time I boot the VM (in case I do decide to do this)
2: I tried installing ImgBurn in Ubuntu but it hangs at the splash screen. I tried k3b but it too crashed. So I tried this command:
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/home/baba/WindowsXP.iso
and all it had was an empty 514MB (size of physical disk) .iso. Or at least that what I saw when I opened it via Ubuntu's archive manager.

Never mind it works now. I'm an idiot.

No, you do not need the installation CD (or the ISO file) once you have installed the OS. The OS is installed on the (virtual) hard drive and boots from there.

Moved to Linux Hosts.
