VBOX Guest Additions Install Error

Hi,

I am using VBOX 5.1.22 on Windows 10 to create a OLE 6.3 VM.

OLE 6.3 installs fine (Basic Server with additional packages). When I try to install the Guest Additions, it fails with the error,

/tmp/vbox.0/Makefile.include.header:112 *** Error: unable to find sources of your current Linux kernel. Specify KERN_DIR.

I searched a lot on Google, tried re-installing the VM many times but no use. I have installed kernel-devel, kernel-headers, kernel-firmware and gcc. Rebooted the server also. Tried setting the KERN_DIR but then it gives another set of errors in the make file.

I am very surprised because I am already using 3-4 other VMs of the same version and all of them never had a problem with Guest Additions.

Is this a bug on 5.1.22? Please help.

Moving to "Linux Guests" from "Linux Hosts".

Thank you Perryg.

I ended up updating the kernel and all the packages using 'yum update'. All is well now.

The reason why i raised this question is that I already have a few Linux guests running with OLE6.3 and without any of these large scale updates.

It may have been possible using an older version of the guest additions but the newer ones require newer packages to operate properly.
