use parallel and usb port for xilinx software

Hi
I want to use parallel port and serial port for putting code onto my xilinx boards in an XP guest installed on a Linux Host. It is a Debian Lenny host with Virtualbox 1.6.2 .
I have installed xilinx on the windows host and am able to simulate.
However when i try to download it doesn't detect the parallel cable for my spartan board.
Similarly my usb doesn't get detected for usb cable.
Can somebody please help me work this out?
