Kali linux gets aborted on virtualbox.

Post by W.Deblu »

Hello :)

I have Ubuntu 16.04 LTS as host. I'm trying to run Kali linux on virtualbox.
The issue is whenever I try to install Kali linux on virtualbox, the VM gets aborted. This happens when I reach 'Partitioning formatting', it gets stuck to 33% and gets aborted.
I have attached the logs and VM details. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I see a small problem there. You are allocating more RAM than is available on your host (before objecting, consider the difference between "available" and "installed").

Even if you had the RAM. You don't mention what version of Kali you're trying to install, but for the current release I see these minimum specs.
docs.kali.org wrote: RAM for i386 and amd64 architectures, minimum: 1GB, recommended: 2GB or more.

Going along with what Don said, it may be possible to actually run Kali with lower than recommended memory, but during the install phase everything is being run from memory. 1GB would be the bare minimum IMHO, and since the host does not even have that available to begin with you would be better served if you added some memory to the host.

Since you're going shopping, my advice would be to buy the maximum amount of memory that will fit in that computer. You might throw the existing memory, but it's going to be worth it, remember me...
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.
