Freebsd 11 guest crashes at startx -OSX el capitan host

Post by julienG »

Hello there,
I am a new user in this forum.

Freebsd 11 crashes virtual machine (virtualbox Version 5.1.22 r115126 (Qt5.6.2)) on OS X host 10.11.6 , meditation style.
Never had this issue with previous installs on same machine, same version of virtual box I guess.
Other Linux guests have NO problems so far.

Virtualbox ose additions installed, freebsd-update done, pkg upgrade also.
I added the
vboxguest_enable="YES" vboxservice_enable="YES"
lines in rc.conf, and checked the vboxvideo driver was in place inside xorg.conf .

Though I did something wrong and wanted to give a try to true OS ... same crash during starting boot time when X is loading xorg.conf.

I send freebsd guest Vbox log, part of OS X log also and picture.

The VBox.log file you provided does not seem to include the error message pictured. You must provide us with a log of the error session if you want us to comment on the error. A new VBox.log is created every time you run the VM, with older logs renamed (VBox.log -> VBox.log.1 -> VBox.log.2 -> VBox.log.3 -> deleted).

OK, I try to give you the good one.
For info I just installed Ghost bad 10.3 as guest, and did all upgrades and software updates without problem. Virtual box is saying that I have the 5.18 ose additions installed and should be upgraded ... but it works so far.

aaaah, it is 340ko, too big .
The file is too big, maximum allowed size is 128 KiB.
cannot paste bin since I am new user here ... any idea ?

Compact (zip) the log file before attaching.

See the sticky topic in the OS X Hosts forum.

This cannot possibly have been previously working on the same machine with the same VirtualBox version, as mentioned in the first post.

Moving to "OSX Hosts" from "Other guests" since this is a well known problem with OSX hosts.

As mpack noted, please look at the 5.1.x Guru Meditation: VERR_IEM_INSTR_NOT_IMPLEMENTED sticky and note that the test builds contain a fix. Please verify that it works for you with the test build.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.
