I currently have a linux partition and an xp partition. Is it possible to boot the xp part. in VB and not install "guest additions" but still run it seamlessly in linux?

If you would read the manual a bit better, and think logically, you know the answer is 'no'. Seamless is an option available after you install the GA.

Well gee, had I done that I wouldn't have seen Technologov's solution, even though it isn't exclusive to VirtualBox.

Please read the Forum Posting Guide. Technologov's approach is certainly feasible for a competent admin / developer. You could also just install a native X package under windows and use DISPLAY redirection. However, such a competent admin / developer would also find it a lot simpler just to install the GA.

You do Sasquatch a disservice. You are confusing usefulness with an answer that you wanted to hear. What Sasqatch took the effort to do was to try to save you hours of frustrating time by pointing out that the VBox way to do Seamless is by using GA. Perhaps you might care to come back in a few days time after you've tried the alternatives and revise this comment.
