VM inside VM has networking problems with RDP and SSH

Post by jeevan »

I created a vm inside my vm created in virtualbox. This is what i have done

installed virtualbox in windows 10
created a vm lets say vm1
in vm1, installed virtualbox, ext pak
installed xrdp and started
from windows accessed the machine using rdp
created a vm let's say vm2
installed ubuntu 32 bit
while instalIing chose to install dns and openssh server

when completed, I logged in vm2, restarted interfaces, it has ip in the normal range 192.168.1.12
I can ssh from vm1 to vm2 but I also can ssh or ping from vm2 to vm1 but can not ping to my dns server 192.168.1.1. Also due to this , I there is not internet access.

The ufw is stopped, what else can I check?

Re: vm inside vm does not have internet access

Just for the record, nested virtualization is NOT supported.

Having said that, I've tried simple nested virtualization and I had internet access. But I can see that you're not talk even about simple internet access. So, please, at least correct the title of the thread and change it to something like "VM inside VM has networking problems with RDP and SSH". The clearer the definition of the problem, the better.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Reason: Removed unnecessary verbatim quote of the whole previous message.
