I tried installing an Arch guest system and followed the arch installation guide and got the desktop working, unfortunately now it flickers whenever I hover over a button in the menu.
I stumbled upon this thread called "Arch Guest on Virtualbox Flickering Windows when Dragged" (I cant post the link because im too new) and I tried installing the guest additions via the .iso but that does not work neither.
I am using VirtualBox Version 5.1.22 r115126 and installed the archlinux-2017.04.01-x86_64.iso file.
Host is a MacBook Pro early 2015, 2,7 Ghz, 8GB ram. I am running the VM on an external harddrive since the internal one is not sufficient. Other VM's run without problems and smoothly.
Any hints?

What exactly doesn't work? And if I'm not mistaken, Arch has their own Guest Additions (GAs). I'll have to double check on that.kuekerino wrote:I tried installing the guest additions via the .iso but that does not work neither.

Re: Arch flickering on MBP
Installing the guest additions via the .iso does not help with the screen flickering, thats what I meant, sorry for the bad wording. Yes Arch has their own guest additions and I tried installing them via pacman but the screen still flickers. If you google you find differing views on wether to use the virtualbox ones or the arch-ones.

Re: Arch flickering on MBP
I have a Manjaro installation (the "nicest" Arch I could find) and I didn't see any problems. I'll try the "archlinux-2017.04.01-x86_64.iso" that you mentioned.
Also, you didn't mention your VirtualBox version, but try the latest test builds: https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Testbuilds , they're always "current"
.
And yes, the GAs for Arch are working from both sides. I guess...

Re: Arch flickering on MBP
I just installed Manajaro and that works flawlessly. Also I edited the VB version in the main post. Putting the arch project on ice for now

Re: Arch flickering on MBP
Thanks for the feedback. I couldn't even get a straight installation of arch, that's why I never replied. It was timing out on all network operations. Too old to be playing with that
