As the title states, what is the safest way to remove a VM for use at a later date on the same machine? I want to free up some space on my SSD so would like to remove 'temporarily' a Windows Guest VM. I have already copied the contents of the Vbox VMs folder i.e. 'My Windows 8.1' folder containing the VDI file plus logs and vbox files to my NAS.
What is the next step for removing the VM from my SSD in order to ensure I don't have any Windows reactivation issues or indeed any other issues when I want to use it again? Should I use the media manager to release the VDI before deleting it but keep the rest of the folder contents, or should I release the VDI then remove the entire VM from Vbox and start with a new VM and point to an existing VDI when I want to reuse it again?
Safest method of removing VM for later use?

Howto: Move a VM (e.g. moving to backup media).
Once the VM is backed up you can then remove it from the manager.
