Audio issue still exists years on

Post by obeone@gmail.com »

One of the reasons I gave up on Vbox in 2012 was the poor audio quality when using Windows guests. Now some years on and the same issue is still present i.e. distorted audio - not dreadful but still nowhere near the clarity when using a Parallels VM or natively from the Mac.

I am still using my mid-2011 i5 iMac with the latest OS. I have tried a W7, W8.1 and now Windows 10 VM in vBox but all have the same issue. I know from the many threads on this and other forums that this issue doesn't just affect me. I have installed additions and extentions. Audio settings have audio enabled, Host driver is CoreAudio and audio controller is IntelHD Audio.

Has anyone managed to get the better of this issue? Vbox is a great solution for creating and using Vms with this audio quality problem being the only real fly in the ointment

Given the Parallels VMs I have on my iMac produce none of the issues I have experienced with audio reproduction and Windows 10 HP VM on my Vbox, I thought I would carry out a couple of tests. I converted Windows 7 and 8.1 to VDI files and created a couple of new VMs. in Vbox Results- W7 and W8.1 have pretty decent audio output whether I use WMP or VLC.

Play the same music tracks in Windows 10 VM and it just sounds as though I am listening to a worn out vinyl record i.e. lots of popping and scratches. I have tried using VLC, Groove and WMP and all produce the same poor results. What on earth is the issue with audio and W10 with Vbox? it spoils and otherwise good experience.

Surely I can't be the only one who's experienced this issue?
