Hey, I am new to VM and I configured a Windows 7 using VirtualBox to test some antivirus software.
then I face a problem, I am not able to use the internet on VM and Host.
when I start VM the Wireless network adapter disappears, I changed the network adapter type in VM settings to Bridged Adapter and select my Wireless adapter.
but unfortunately it doesn't work, is there any way to solve this?

is there any way to use the internet on both VM and host while using VM?

It should work with the default setting of NAT.

What do you mean when you say "when I start VM the Wireless network adapter disappears"? What adapter disappears? The vm does not have a wireless adapter. Do you mean the host's adapter disappears? That would certainly be unusual.

Bridged networking does not work well with wireless adapters in the host, but NAT should.

yup, it worked fine with NAT.
and the disapearing problem the host adapter was disappearing because I use a USB Wifi adapter, and I have enabled USB in VM.
so when VM starts it automatically catches the adapter which was the problem.
now it's solved, thanks for your reply.

No, it wasn't disappearing because you have enabled USB in the VM; it was disappearing because you have a USB filter enabled in the VM, most probably a blank one.

Hi,

Sorry to bring up this issue. I seem to have the same problem.
I am a bit new to using Virtualbox and seek some help.
I am adding my Wifi USB Adapter to the in USB Device Filters.
Later, when I boot up the linux on Virtualbox and connect the
USB adapter, I don't see any checked option for my adapter.
Not only that, the interface disappears from the host machine
as well. This precisely happens as soon as start the VM.

Log details on the host machine:
[ 4333.381942] r8188eu 1-3:1.0 wlxd03745362047: renamed from wlan0
[ 4333.481404] MAC Address = d0:37:45:36:20:47
[ 4333.481677] R8188EU: indicate disassoc
[ 4333.647665] usb 1-3: reset high-speed USB device number 10 using xhci_hcd
[ 4334.059552] usb 1-3: reset high-speed USB device number 10 using xhci_hcd
[ 4334.829553] usb 1-3: USB disconnect, device number 10

It says USB disconnect. I see this behaviour only when I start the VM.

Is this an expected result? How can I use my Wifi adapter on
Virtualbox for linux. Need help on this issue.

Thanks in Advance.

I think I found a possible answer.
My USB device forms a one-to-one connection I guess.
It disconnects from host machine and serves the VM.
When I checked the logs in VM linux, I found that it was
a firmware issue.

All USB devices form a one-to-one connection. USB devices cannot be shared.

If you need to communicate on this problem further, start a new topic. This one was three years untouched before you posted.

If you continue to have troubles, Carefully go through USB basics and troubleshooting. If you finish all the steps 1-7 and cannot get your USB device into the guest OS, carefully post the outputs of the commands in step 8 as text in

Code: Select all

tags, not screenshots. Zip and post the log step 8 calls for, using the forum's Upload Attachment tab. All of this diagnostic data should go in the new topic, not continuing this one.
