Error: Failed to Synchronize Cache for repo 'updates' Virtual Box Fedora 25

Hi

I have successfully installed Virtual Box 5.1.

I am now trying to perform the command dnf groupinstall "Web Server"

However, I keep getting the following error:

Error: Failed to Synchronize Cache for repo 'updates'

I then tried to do any dnf command, installing another type of program, they all failed.

I have tried editing my fedora.repo file = but most of the threads I have reviewed seem outdated (i.e. v24).

Any suggestions?

ps - I am a novice, but can access and edit documents with vi

Do you have internet connection in the guest?
Can you ping 8.8.8.8 and google.com?
If so, then VirtualBox networking is working and your question is purely a Fedora one.

Hi errr thanks for that.

I guess I don't and here I was messing around with my repo files :)

I will try to fix that next!

Thanks

Not able to access Internet

Hi

I am a novice :(

I am trying to access the internet using virtualbox and it looks ok using ifconfig

I have virtualbox 5.1 installed on my host Fedora25.

In the virtualbox (guest) when I type ifconfig all seems to be ok:

enp03: flags=4163<UP, BROADCAST, RUNNING, MULTICAST> mtu 1500
inet 10.0.2.15 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 10.0.2.255

However, I cannot connect to the internet in my browser.

I have looked at NAT and it appears to be all set to default, plus I can access browser from the host (Fedora 25).

Any suggestions on what I can change / configure to make this work?

thank you!
Karen

Can you ping 8.8.8.8 in the guest? Then can you ping google.com?

If the address returns positive but not the friendly name then it would be a DNS issue.

It would also help if you post the guests log file ( as an attachment )

Thanks

You guys are lightning fast. I'll try it again as soon as I get home again this evening.

As to the logs, I can't access the internet so can't easily copy and paste between terminal (guest) and internet (host) as I have not yet managed to get the bidirectional copy and paste functioning.

I will try first step without the logs and if no joy- will try to post them.

Thanks!
Karen

Just to make sure we're in the same page, when mpack Perryg refers to the guest logs, he's talking about right-clicking on the VM in the VirtualBox Manager and select "Show Log". Save only the first "VBox.log", ZIP it and attach it to your response (see the "Upload attachment" tab below the reply form).
Edit: Don't confuse the green people ;)

BTW, I merged this topic with yesterday's topic. It is the same error and we could have saved a couple of posts of back and forth...

Logs attached

If you could let me know where you found that problem in the log (so that I may find it later), I would be most grateful (on top of the other gratefulness of course!)

Thanks a lot!
Karen

@karentutor,

You missed the first part of my question.
  • Can you ping 8.8.8.8 in the guest? Then can you ping google.com?

If the address returns positive but not the friendly name then it would be a DNS issue.
The log shows you are using VBox NAT and it should be setup properly as far as VBox is concerned. Answer this and we can move forward.

Hi

Apologies I did test 8.8.8.8 and google.com and both failed...

It I was experimenting with ports and firewalls and I installed fedora25 firewalld GUI to try different things and now ivirtualbox. Firefox is working !

My guess is that somehow that enabled the package flows. But I am not sure.

In any event, it's a miracle :)
