[Solved] vbox not working on linux fedora 25
[Solved] vbox not working on linux fedora 25
This is as far as I've gotten, any help would be much appreciated.
Any other files or commands you want me to enter into terminal just tell me and I'll try to provide them for you.
I couldn't copy and pasted the dmesg return from the terminal because it was too long; if you need it ask and I'll split it in half.
[root@localhost yum.repos.d]# /usr/lib/virtualbox/vboxdrv.sh setup
vboxdrv.sh: Stopping VirtualBox services.
vboxdrv.sh: Building VirtualBox kernel modules.
vboxdrv.sh: Starting VirtualBox services.
vboxdrv.sh: Building VirtualBox kernel modules.
vboxdrv.sh: failed: modprobe vboxdrv failed. Please use 'dmesg' to find out why.

Re: Uhhhh... vbox not working on linux fedora 25
Run the following from a terminal and compress if it is too big to post without. ( as an attachment )I couldn't copy and pasted the dmesg return from the terminal because it was too long
Code: Select all
dmesg | tee demsg.txtAlso post the /var/log/vbox-install.log ( as an attachment )
Did you download the install from VirtualBox or rpm-repo?
Re: Uhhhh... vbox not working on linux fedora 25
install log and dmesg return
i installed it from virtual box

Re: Uhhhh... vbox not working on linux fedora 25
Did you install the headers and devel packages that match your running kernel?
Re: Uhhhh... vbox not working on linux fedora 25
No I didn't, my kernel is 4.10.5-200... do you know the commands or link to the required headers and devel packages for me by any chance.
if not I'm sure i can go find them but it would be extremely helpful if you did. P.S. I'm running on a 64 bit system if that is pertinent/not evident.
Thanks for all the help so far.

Re: Uhhhh... vbox not working on linux fedora 25
In an elevated terminal type the following:
Then install the VirtualBox package again
Code: Select all
dnf install kernel-headers-$(uname -r) kernel-devel-$(uname -r)Re: Uhhhh... vbox not working on linux fedora 25
I entered the command and resolved the dependencies, but when i execute the /usr/lib/virtualbox/vboxdrv.sh setup command i get the same dmesg return. Any other suggestions?
Re: Uhhhh... vbox not working on linux fedora 25
i just ran yum update and it skipped over this file because of broken dependencies could this cause it and if so do you know a fix?
libgpod x86_64 0.8.3-14.el7 epel 299 k

Re: Uhhhh... vbox not working on linux fedora 25
Sounds like you are having issues with your host. This can be due to adding extra repositories or some other package depending on the kernel.
IIRC libgpod has to do with an ipad/pod. Not something I can help with because I don't have one.
Oh and with Fedora 25 they changed from yum to dnf and can be causing some issues for you.

Re: Uhhhh... vbox not working on linux fedora 25
I don't have much installed on this system so i will try reinstalling fedora and seeing if a clean set of repositories and not using yum any more will help my issue. Thanks for the help and hopefully this will fix my issue, if not i will most likely be back on this board.
Thanks for all the help mod, gotta love new systems right.

Re: Uhhhh... vbox not working on linux fedora 25
One other point I will leave you with. Don't add any other repositories ( use the ones that come installed by default ) unless you really need them and for sure not until you install VirtualBox.
Re: Uhhhh... vbox not working on linux fedora 25
OK, so with the clean install I am getting hung up in the same spot. But with a far less error ridden dmesg return this time I'll post the new one and if you can help me out then it is much appreciated.
I am definitely making progress, but it is still after I enter the command /usr/lib/virtualbox/vboxdrv.sh setup into the terminal.
Thanks and I'm sorry if this is getting a bit frustrating helping me out.
*edit looking at the dmesg i have 3 errors
bus: MMIO read of 00000000 FAULT at 3caf10 [ IBUS ]
[sdb] No Caching mode page found
[sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
Thoughts?

Re: Uhhhh... vbox not working on linux fedora 25
dmesg shows nothing about VirtualBox bad or good. I would like to see the /var/log/vbox-install.log
Also when you installed VirtualBox did you do it from a terminal or use some package manager?

Re: Uhhhh... vbox not working on linux fedora 25
If I'm remembering correctly the top one is referring to my graphics and the bottom two refer to my usb stick that doesn't use caching.

Re: Uhhhh... vbox not working on linux fedora 25
It is late here and I have been working for 14 hours so I probably not reply until tomorrow. Just post the log I ask for and we will see what it says.
