Unless the right side, under the username says Oracle, nobody here is an official tester. It's an open-source project and we're all volunteers. Just like you. And I believe that a lot of people have "real" work and a "life". And nobody is going to volunteer to solve your specific problem if even you don't show interest in that...Ced-le-pingouin wrote:And I'm not a VB official tester, I also have work to do

Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Re: VirtualBox 5.1.16 problem with UNC paths as shared folders ?
Oh well, I guess there's been a misunderstanding, here.
I was not blaming anyone, nor was I angry. I even used smilies to try to convey that, but apparently it didn't work.
I had a problem last week. I looked into the problem for part of a day, to find what exact feature in what software was faulty.
I did that so I could report it. I reported it here, and then on the bugtracker.
When new builds were made available, I installed and tested them, and reported the results here, and in the bugtracker.
I could have just stayed with my downgraded VB 5.1.14. Problem solved. But I didn't.
When my problem was solved, I mentioned it. Twice. I only brought up the GUI way of doing things so the report would be complete (because others may use it). I mentioned I didn't use shared folders that way, so I didn't know how older VB versions behaved in that respect. Twice. There were no complaints. Only reports. Also, I thanked both you and frank for your answers and new builds.
Yet you chose to focus on only one sentence in my message, answering rather dryly that "it would have taken 5 minutes to test it" (the GUI stuff).
Even though it wasn't the initial problem, and (again) not the way I use shared folders, I re-installed an older VB version, tested that, and reported back, again.
And for the second time, you chose to focus on one sentence in that answer, ending yours with "nobody is going to volunteer to solve your specific problem if even you don't show interest in that". Which is utterly false. Did you even read my previous messages, here and in the ticket, where I say the initial problem *is* solved ?
I'm perfectly aware that if you answer questions in the forums, *you* won't be investigating and testing the problems yourself. That would be insane. I never expected that. Nor did I imply such a thing. I only pointed out that I would not be able to test use cases I don't have, in older versions that I'd have to re-install on my workstation. I think it's a reasonable thing to say, too.
Anyway, like I said, maybe there was a misunderstanding, or a poor choice of words, I don't know.
No hard feelings. Have a nice evening/night/...

Same here, I might have focused/misinterpreted the wrong parts of your message...Ced-le-pingouin wrote:No hard feelings. Have a nice evening/night/...
Anyway, 5.1.18 is out, which fixes the problems. Officially
