Using a .tib file in virtualbox

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could please assist me on the following problem.
I used acronis to create a backup file of my old windows vista pc. I then proceeded to change that backup file from a .tib to .vhd.
I created a new VHD partition and copied the .vhd backup file into this partition.
I then proceeded to do the setup of the machine.

When I try to start the machine it says that Vista is not installed. Does this mean I would still require a Vista iso for this to work? Or am I somewhere going in the wrong direction
Any help will be appreciated.

Please report the precise error message.

p.s. You didn't need to convert the tib to vhd, nor does a VHD backup have to be restored into a VHD container in VirtualBox. Here's an old discussion of mine regarding restoring from an Acronis tib backup: viewtopic.php?f=7&p=109762.

Thanks a lot will go check it out. I've used VMs before in the past to work with ubuntu. But this whole process is pretty new to me, so still trying to figure it all out :)

If you has ha Acronis backup you would restore it equal as you would do on a real computer.
Start the VM from the Acronis Media, choose your backup file, restore it to the virtual disk.

"5. Use BartPEs "A43 File Management Utility" - which is quite similar to Windows Explorer - and use it to map the shared folder to a drive letter. Then run Acronis and browse to that drive letter: the Acronis image should be right there, waiting to be "restored" onto the new VMs virtual HD."

1st. Should I create a map drive to a folder where the .tib is stored? And must the .tib file be in the VM or on the PC the VM is running on?
2nd. Must I now run Acronis 2017 in the Vista VM and restore from the folder where the .tib is stored? ( I see it has the Acronis Universal Restore function under the tools folder)

Your help will be very much appreciated
If you boot from a recovery CD (BartPE or Acronis recovery disk) then VirtualBox shared folders will not be available, so the share is a true network share. That means that you need to locate the tib file or a folder or drive that is marked as shareable on a network. Different hosts have different ways of doing that.

Or you can locate the file on a USB drive.

I still need that precise Vista error message.
