Fedora.vmdk Invalid Settings Detected

Post by Celtics »

Hello guys, my first post here :)

I am having trouble with installing Fedora 13 on Virtual Box. It is vmdk file and when I am trying to adds it as a hard disk in Controller: SATA it is telling me: Invalid Settings Detected.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Move your mouse over the triangle and keep it there. It will tell you what the invalid settings are.

It is saying: No hard disk is selected for SATA( SATA Port 1).

When I am trying to select the fedora file for sata port 0 or sata port 1 etc. It is staying empty, not recognizing the file at all...

I see that SATA port 0 has a "Fedora.vdi" attached to it, and port 1 is empty. Obviously you need to correct this, by choosing a valid virtual hard disk or by deleting the unused port. Did you import this VM?

Sorry, I am quite new into Virtual Box.

So basically I am marking this empty sata port 1 and I am pressing the blue arrow next to hard disk: sata port 1 in Attributes and I am trying to add Fedora 13.vmdk from there, but the port 1 is staying empty.

thanks

Do you have an existing VMDK? How did you create the virtual machine? I will need complete and detailed instructions so I can reproduce it here, so step-by-step of what you did. Do not be afraid to go into as many details as you can. ALL the details actually.

Hi,

I will create an entirely new virtual machine:
New>Version:Fedora (32-bit)>4GB>create a virtual hard disk now>create>VDI>Dynamic>Location and size 20GB>create>the machine is ready

Settings>Storage>Controller:IDE - Empty/Controller:SATA - Fedora.vdi

And now I am trying to add the Fedora 13.vmdk

As I said, full details. What's "Fedora 13.vmdk"? Is it an existing installation that you downloaded from somewhere? Where from?

When you add a 2nd HD to your VM, you are asked to "Choose existing disk", "Create new disk" or "Cancel". In any event you cannot end up with an empty slot, that's why I'm asking. I'm trying to figure out how you ended up like that.

In any event, what happens if you select the existing VMDK? Do you get an error message?

Why do you want to add a 2nd hard drive and you don't select the VMDK when first creating the VM? Any reason?

As I said, don't be afraid to go into the details, all of them, otherwise we're going to be asking more and more questions until we get the full story...

I downloaded the file from: rutracker made by variableadmin.
if you recommend me any source to download a fedora for studying purposes I would be greatful. Thanks

When I am adding a second HDD I press Choose Existing disk and I am trying to load the vmdk file from my computer and I am ending with empty.

When I am creating the machine: I am trying to choose the existing virtual hard disk file and choose my fedora.vmdk. There is no recognition at all. Even it choose the previous VM vdi. I am attaching a pic for this.So it is the same story, it doesn't want to open the vmdk file...

The best option that you have, is to download the official Fedora installation and do the installation yourself. That's one of the reasons I got in the virtualization, to learn other OSes. But you can only learn (in my opinion) if you experience the full installation/configuration as well.

If on the other hand you want to learn about a specific "other" feature (like databases, webservers, etc), then by all means, that's perfectly acceptable as well to get a pre-configured VM for the specific task.

On the picture you attached, did you try to click on the folder icon with the up-pointing green arrow? What happens? Did you check the downloaded VMDK for its checksum and make sure you don't have a corrupt download?

To begin with, you shouldn't be adding a 2nd HD unless those are specifically the instructions, you should be sticking with your primary, your first HD.
