How do I install 64-bit VirtualBox

I've installed Virtualbox several times on Windows 64-bit systems. Each time, when I start to create a VM, the only operating systems available from the Version drop-down box (Create Virtual Machine window) are 32-bit. I want to create a VM with a 64-bit Linux operating system.

How do I install a 64-bit version of VirtualBox? There's never an option to select this during the installation. I have read the manual and the instructions don't work.

Please go thoroughly through the FAQ: I have a 64bit host, but can't install 64bit guests.

Also, consider changing your favorite internet search engine. There should be plenty of results about this, but the search engine you're using now, does not seem to return any results for some reason.

I don't understand the comment about "favorite search engine".

Also, I gave up on trying to install a 64-bit VM, since this seems to never be an option. Now, I'm just trying to create a 32-bit VM. Does hardware virtualization need to be enabled on a Windows machine, even when you're trying to create a 32-bit VM using VirtualBox?

Did you go thoroughly through the FAQ link that I gave you? You've got to make absolutely sure that all of the conditions are met.

Usually you don't need hardware virtualization for 32-bit machines. There are some exceptions, like Windows > 7. What are you trying to create?

Google and Bing, searched with the words in your OP: "How do I install a 64-bit version of Virtualbox" yield the linked tutorial that Socratis sent to you as the second hit in each search engine. Socratis is recommending that you not use whatever search engine you tried to search with before, and try a bigger-name engine like the above two. (Or is he recommending to search first? )
