Running .vmdk images in VirtualBox

I know that .vmdk are supported but you can't take snapshots so I have tried to run one for a few days with no luck. To troubleshoot I consolidated the image into one image to make sure that wasn't the problem. I even converted it from a .vmdk to a .vdi and with the same results. I was able to run the .vmdk and do a repair since the image was of Windows XP. I'm about out of ideas what could be wrong but here is my log from VirtualBox:

Just an update.

I was able to figure this out on my own. But if anyone else has the same problem this is what I had to do to fix it.

I enabled IO APIC (because vmware virtualizes this)
Also I had to use piix3 for the IDE controller.

After I did this everything was happy.
